Daily Devotional: Psalms 87:1-7
Ps 87:1-7
1 He has set his foundation on the holy mountain; 2 the LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. 3 Glorious things are said of you, O city of God: Selah 4 "I will record Rahab and Babylon among those who acknowledge me--Philistia too, and Tyre, along with Cush--and will say, 'This one was born in Zion.'" 5 Indeed, of Zion it will be said, "This one and that one were born in her, and the Most High himself will establish her." 6 The LORD will write in the register of the peoples: "This one was born in Zion." Selah 7 As they make music they will sing, "All my fountains are in you."
Rev 21:1-4
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
Jerusalem (also known as Zion) was a glorious city in the days of Solomon. It is said that there was so much silver in the city that it had no real value. Much of the Temple of God was overlaid in gold. Solomon had multiple palaces for him and his wives. The splendor of the city was unimaginable for us today. The Jews were a proud nation because they had been blessed by God.
The people of God today are in the kingdom of Christ and we are promised a city that is far beyond anything ever known in Jerusalem. The pictures painted for us are pale in comparison to the reality of it. But the beauty of heaven is not in the physical gold, silver or precious stones. The real beauty of heaven is the throne of God and being in his presence. To be given a glorified body and to see Jesus face to face is beyond our ability to comprehend. It is no wonder that it is said that those who are there are always praising and worshipping God.
Heavenly Father it is such a privilege to be called your child and to know that by the blood of Jesus my sins are forgiven. Thank you for the promise of eternal life in a place that is beyond description. Help me make the most of every day while here on earth but to always look forward to being with you in eternity. Use me to help others want to serve you and to live for you. Lord, there are so many who are sick with various things and I ask you to give your healing where it is in your will. Give me greater faith to trust you in every way. I pray in Jesus name.
