Daily Devotional: Psalms 90:13-17

Ps 90:13-17

13 Relent, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants. 14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. 15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble. 16 May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. 17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us--yes, establish the work of our hands.

1 Thess 3:11-13

12 May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.

One of the most difficult things I have ever had to do, was to wait on the Lord for an answer to my prayer. There have been financial problems, there have been relationship problems, there have been job/career problems, and the list goes on and on. (Preachers are people too, and we suffer the same things as everyone else.) But I have prayed and then waited days, weeks, months and even years at times, for an answer. I have also had times that I prayed and did not see the answer or what God was doing because it was not what I wanted to see.

Waiting produces patience – and I have needed that lesson a lot. Waiting on the Lord can be one of the greatest faith builders we will ever experience. Waiting often results in greater humility because we realize that God, and not us, is in control of our lives and things around us. Those who wait on the Lord will mount up with wings and soar with the eagles. In Christ we can do all things.

What a wonderful thing that we can wait on the Lord in full assurance that he will hear us, and he will respond to our needs. It may not be what we are looking for or what we feel is best, but God will use whatever is in our lives for our good if we love him and we trust him. Paul says that it is a trustworthy statement that God is always faithful, even when we are not faithful. His word is always sure.

Father God, it is just such a joy to serve Jesus as my Lord and Master. To know that your Spirit is ever with me and in me to mold me more and more into your likeness is such a comfort. Use me in your service to help others want to serve you and live for you. Give me wisdom to encourage those who are struggling with difficult things in their lives. Open my eyes to opportunities to see the needs of others and open my heart to respond with compassion so I will share the various blessings you have given to me. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
