Daily Devotional: Psalms 94:1-7
Ps 94:1-7
1 O LORD, the God who avenges, O God who avenges, shine forth. 2 Rise up, O Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. 3 How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked be jubilant? 4 They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting. 5 They crush your people, O LORD; they oppress your inheritance. 6 They slay the widow and the alien; they murder the fatherless. 7 They say, "The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob pays no heed."
2 Peter 3:8-9
8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Does the Lord see? There is nothing that escapes his eyes and he does not forget the things we have done. This is a sword that swings both ways because he sees every good deed we do and he knows every pure thought in our minds. Jesus said that he notices even a cup of cold water given to one who is thirsty. But he is also aware of every evil thing that is done and he sees when we have hatefulness or bitterness in our hearts or when we say some unkind word. He knows all.
He made us and he knows what is in our hearts and in our minds. He does not excuse us when we do things against his will but he is merciful and he is always willing to forgive us. We all do things that grieve the Spirit and hurt our Lord but when we are trying to do right and we are willing to admit our wrong and we turn from it when we become aware of it, the blood of Jesus cleanses us.
Our goal is to reach that eternal home with our Lord. We enjoy living here and we love so many people around us and we have things we want to accomplish but at the same time we keep our eyes focused on the things above and on Jesus our Savior and Lord. We do not know when the Lord will return or when we will leave this world, so we must be ready all of the time. As we walk in his light, we live each day without fear and with the assurance that heaven will be our home.
Thank you, Lord God, for your love shown to me in more ways than I can possibly know or understand. Help me open my heart to your Spirit so I will be filled with your love and your compassion and it will show to all around me. Help me be as merciful and as forgiving to others as you are and have been to me. Thank you for the opportunity I have to talk to you every day and to know that you hear me and that you respond to my prayers. Give your healing and peace to those who are hurting, those who are struggling and those who are sick. In Jesus name.
