Daily Devotional: Psalms 101:1-8
Ps 101:1-8
1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O LORD, I will sing praise. 2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life--when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart. 3 I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me. 4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil. 5 Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure. 6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me. 7 No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence. 8 Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the LORD.
1 Thess 5:15-22
15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire; 20 do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. 22 Avoid every kind of evil.
One of the things that so many people do not understand is that life is so much better when we all try to do what is right. When everyone is kind, we all are happier. When everyone is honest, we all are at more peace. When we all live in the will of God, we all find more joy and have less drama with which to deal.
David knew this, so he made sure that he did not have a lot of wicked people around him. Paul was right when he said that evil companion will corrupt good morals. I heard someone say that if you put on white gloves to do garden work, the dirt never becomes white but the gloves will always be stained by the dirt.
Think on good things. Positive thinking always brings more joy. The more we can associate with good people, the more we will be positive in our lives. When we are always praying with thanksgiving and we are holding on to all that is good, while avoiding every kind of evil, we find peace and joy in Jesus Christ.
O Lord God, what a blessing to be your child and to have so many friends who love you and who seek to live for you. Help me not keep the good news of Jesus to myself but to be looking for opportunities to share it with those who do not know him as Lord. Use me to encourage those who are struggling with disease or with other issues in their lives. Help me replace judgement and condemnation of others with compassion, mercy, forgiveness, and grace. Give me wisdom and strength to accomplish your purpose in my life. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
