Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:12-22

Ps 105:12-22

When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it, they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings: "Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm." He called down famine on the land and destroyed all their supplies of food; and he sent a man before them--Joseph, sold as a slave. They bruised his feet with shackles, his neck was put in irons, till what he foretold came to pass, till the word of the LORD proved him true. The king sent and released him; the ruler of peoples set him free. He made him master of his household, ruler over all he possessed, to instruct his princes as he pleased and teach his elders wisdom.

There is a song which says: “You may count the seeds within the apple, you may count the apples on the tree, you may count the trees within the orchard, who can count the apples in a seed? Who can say how much the fruit will grow? Who can know the harvest of tomorrow?” Only God can know what the future holds for any of us, and he alone holds that in his hand. Another song says that little is much when God is in it. This is so true because he is the victor in all things.

This means that in my life and in your life, we can accomplish all that God wants us to do. It means that today, we can do his will in every way – no matter how small a deed it may be – and it will bear much fruit. It may be something as simple as making a phone call or holding the hand of one who is hurting or it could be when we admit our fault and make the necessary correction in our life.

Every person whom God has used in the entirety of history, has been a person just like you and me, someone who slept at night, got up and got dressed and then went out for a day, doing whatever it was that God had them doing. This may have been teaching or it may have been providing a place for a preacher to sleep at night. Ruth just followed the advice of her godly mother-in-law and went to the field to help pluck grain – but she became known as one of the great women of faith. The young boy David was a shepherd who was selected to play his harp before the king whenever he became upset and stressed out. Who knows what God can and will do with you and me in our lives – maybe even today?

O Lord God, Majestic and Holy is your name in all the earth! There is nothing so small that you cannot use it to do great and wonderful things in my life. Help me remember that truly being a servant is what makes one great in your kingdom, and that my duty is to serve. Use me to reach someone who is lost or to help someone who is struggling or to give comfort to someone who is hurting. Use me to be the answer to the prayer of someone today. I pray in Jesus name.
