Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:23-27
Ps 105:23-27
Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham. The LORD made his people very fruitful; he made them too numerous for their foes, whose hearts he turned to hate his people, to conspire against his servants. He sent Moses his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen. They performed his miraculous signs among them, his wonders in the land of Ham.
Rom 8:31-32
What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
One of the most interesting things about studying the Bible, and especially the Old Testament, is how God uses the most unlikely people in the most unlikely circumstances to carry out his will. He used people who were not trained to do the job. He used people who had never dreamed of doing his work. He used some people who took the job “screaming and kicking” but turned out to be heroes of faith once they got into God’s will and God’s plan for them.
If God is for us, who can be against us? When we consider the power of God coupled with his wisdom, and then we put it into action in our lives, it is no wonder that Paul said he is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, beyond all we ask or think by the power of the Holy Spirit working in us. The problem, too often, is us, and not God. When we do not quench his Spirit in us, there is no limit to what he can accomplish in and through us. When God is for us, Satan cannot stop us.
What great work does God have in store for you today? As a mother, it may be that your great task today is to be patient and encouraging to your child. Who is better prepared and capable of giving good advice than grandparents? Maybe your job today is just to show your co-workers that Jesus is living in you. The great work for you today may be to pick up the phone (or drive over) and talk to someone who is shut in at home and who never has any interaction with others. The great work of God is usually doing small things according to his will and when they all add up, it is a great life of service in the name of Jesus Christ.
Hallelujah! What a Savior is Jesus Christ our Lord, and in his name, I come to you with thanksgiving for all you have done in me, in my life and for all the things you have allowed me to do for others. Thank you for so many friendships of people who have helped me over the years and who encourage me every day. Give your peace to those who have lost someone they love dearly. I ask you to be with the leaders of our nation and with the leaders of other nations, so that we can live quiet and peaceable lives. Thank you for our many freedoms in the USA.
