Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:37-45

Ps 105:37-45

He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no one faltered. Egypt was glad when they left because dread of Israel had fallen on them. He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night. They asked, and he brought them quail and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. He opened the rock, and water gushed out; like a river it flowed in the desert. For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham. He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy; he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for--that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the LORD.

1 Thess 5:23-24

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

The Lord is faithful in all things. When he makes a promise, it will come to pass, even if it is four hundred years later. He is not limited by our time keeping nor is he limited by what we think is best. He alone defines what is good and what is bad, what is right and what is wrong. The fact that he can predict and accomplish events hundreds of years in advance, is proof that he is truly the God of all things.

The riches and the blessings he gave Israel of old when he brought them out of Egypt, is nothing compared to the blessing and riches he gives us today when he brings us out of the bondage of sin. While theirs was great, they were physical and they would cease to exist but ours are spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. In him, it is though we have never sinned, considered righteous before God. In him, we have so many wonderful brothers and sisters from whom we receive strength and encouragement. Plus, we have the promise of living with him forever.

But like Israel of old, we become heirs of his promises which also includes being heirs to his word. It is our privilege to be guided by his perfect word that gives us peace and hope in a dark and wicked world. Then as we continue to walk in his light, the blood of Jesus continues to cleanse us from all sin.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful to be your child and to know that you have promised me salvation from this evil world. Help me be faithful to you and to your word in all things. Give me strength to carry out your will in every part of my life so your name will be honored. I need your wisdom from above to guide me and to help me become more like you. As I keep my eyes focused on you, I am more aware that the things of this world do not really matter in the eternal scheme of things. Help me trust you so I can live with hope in peace. In Jesus name.
