Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:19-27
Ps 106:19-27
At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped an idol cast from metal. They exchanged their Glory for an image of a bull, which eats grass. They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt, miracles in the land of Ham and awesome deeds by the Red Sea. So he said he would destroy them--had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them. Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise. They grumbled in their tents and did not obey the LORD. So he swore to them with uplifted hand that he would make them fall in the desert, make their descendants fall among the nations and scatter them throughout the lands.
Phil 2:1-4
If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Moses was a man of meekness, as was our Lord. He gave of himself to save the Hebrew people from their bondage and Jesus gave himself to save us from our sin. Moses served God with a giving heart and spirit so that his mission was above his personal gain or his personal pain. His work was for the glory of God and was not about Moses or his family. He considered others better than himself.
Life is not fair. It was not fair for Moses; it was not for Jesus and it will not be fair for us either. But Moses learned that life was not about himself and that God was in control. It took him forty years to learn this lesson, so we need not be surprised if God is persistent for a while in working with us to train us to do his work. What Moses learned was that the more he trusted God, the more blessings he had in his life and the more meaningful it was to him, his people and to God. The same will be true with us today, in whatever capacity God wants us to serve him.
O Lord God, I am so thankful for all you have done for me in my life and all you continue to do for me every day. I ask you to keep me safe and give me wisdom to know how to accomplish what you want me to do. Give me courage to do your will, even when I do not know what the outcome will be. I ask you to be with those who are sick, those taking treatments and those who are faced with all kinds of trials. Bless those who have lost their loved ones and are filled with grief. Use me to help each, as you give healing, relief, and peace. In Jesus name.
