Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:34-39
Ps 106:34-39
They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them, but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs. They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons. They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood. They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves.
Phil 2:14-16
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life-in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.
Is it wrong to be like our friends or neighbors? The answer is “no” when they are doing what is right. In fact, it may be that we have really good friends and it is best when we follow their example. But we must know right from wrong and not follow others into doing what is wrong and what displeases God. We do live in a crooked and depraved generation and we will shine like stars in a black sky, in contrast to the ungodliness and immorality that prevails all around us, if we are following the example of Jesus. In doing this, we let our light shine.
One of the problems with sin in the world is that it becomes an acceptable part of our culture and even our laws, so that we are expected to accept it, live it and never stand against it. The devil will bring it in gradually and subtly so that we never even notice the change, if we are not careful. It may begin as a joking matter on a TV show or in movies, until we are comfortable with it, as has been the case with homosexuality, along with similar sins. We must be aware because it often is inserted into the children’s programs and their books, even in their school lessons. This is how evolution and anti-God movements began.
Heavenly Father, I am thankful for your care shown to me every day. Thank you for the loving friends and loving family you have given to me. Thank you for the many opportunities you give me to do good for others and help me use every one of them to your glory. Fill me with your joy so others see a smile on my face and in turn, brighten their day. Fill me with your love so I will be an encouragement to all with whom I come in contact. Open my mind so that I never quit learning more about you and your will for me. Be with our nation and our leaders so we can live quite and peaceful lives in your service. I humbly pray in Jesus name.
