Daily Devotional: Psalms 115:10-18
Ps 115:10-18
O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD--he is their help and shield. You who fear him, trust in the LORD--he is their help and shield. The LORD remembers us and will bless us: He will bless the house of Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron, he will bless those who fear the LORD--small and great alike. May the LORD make you increase, both you and your children. May you be blessed by the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to man. It is not the dead who praise the LORD, those who go down to silence; it is we who extol the LORD, both now and forevermore. Praise the LORD.
Col 1:18-20
And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
We turn to God in times of trials and we turn to him in trouble but we must put our trust in him when things are going our way. Jesus is to be our best friend every day. God is our Father when we are happy or when we are sad. We need him every hour of every day, even when we do not feel that need at the moment or when we think we have things under control. Make Jesus Lord always.
When I begin to compare myself with what I know is the perfect way, it is easy for me to get depressed and realize just how far I am from being like Jesus. When I compare myself to other people, I can rationalize that I am better than a lot of them (and let myself become self-righteous and judgmental). Or I can just accept who I am, where I am, how I am, and then honestly go to work on my heart and my life to make it closer to what it should be; that is, to be like Jesus.
As I grow, as I allow the Spirit of God to mold me, as I let his fruit develop in my life, I can rejoice in the progress but also still see how far I have to go. It is by the grace of God that I continue to grow one step at a time. It is also by his grace that I can use all I have and all I am to help others live for the Lord and serve him too.
Thank you, God, for your grace, shown to me in Jesus Christ and revealed in your holy word. Thank you for the many friends you have put into my life. Thank you for the opportunities you have given me to help others in so many different ways, even as so many have helped me. Give me wisdom and give me strength to be all you want me to be and give me the energy to accomplish what you want me to accomplish. Help me draw closer to you each day. In Jesus name.
