Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:25-32
Ps 119:25-32 Daleth
I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to your word. I recounted my ways and you answered me; teach me your decrees. Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders. My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law. I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws. I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD; do not let me be put to shame. I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.
2 Tim 1:3-5
I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
The Psalmist loved God and therefore he loved the word of God. He wanted to immerse himself in it so that he could live exactly the way God wanted him to live, both from a positive as well as a negative standpoint. Along with this love for the truth of God came a hatred of falsehood and false ways. He knew that when one opposed the will of God, that person was also opposing God who gave it.
We spoke a few days ago about the pendulum effect. One of the things we need to learn about this is that we must not forsake any truth that is closer to one end of the spectrum than the other, even when we learn other truth that is closer to the opposite end. A wise man told me long ago that we can never over-emphasize any area of truth, but we can under-emphasize other areas in our teaching.
We are saved by grace. We are saved by faith. It is the love of God, along with his mercy that gives us his grace. But grace is accepted and faith is demonstrated by our willingness to obey the will of God. John says that we do not have the love of God in us when we fail to obey his commands. These may involve our actions or it may be our attitudes or it may be our priorities, or a combination of all of these.
O Lord God, my heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your revealed word and the love for all of mankind that is shown to us in it. Thank you for your grace and your tender mercies. Help me remember that your grace teaches me to deny worldly lusts and all ungodliness and it also compels me to show your love and your grace in my life toward others. Keep me from thinking more highly of myself than I should, but to always considers others and their needs first. Give your peace to those who are struggling with mental and emotional issues. In Jesus name.
