Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:105-112
Ps 119:105-112 Nun
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. I have suffered much; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word. Accept, O LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.
1 John 1:5-7
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life."
Walking in the light does not mean we are perfect or that we never sin. Walking in the light is a way of saying that we are living for the Lord, trying to imitate Jesus in every part of our being. We are being guided by his word so that we live in a way that is pleasing to him. It is in this lifestyle that we show our faith and by doing this we also bring glory to the name of our God. Jesus is our Lord!
There are temptations all around us every day. Some are more appealing to some of us than others because each of us has “the sin that so easily besets us” in our lives. So, yes, we all mess up at times and we all do or say things that should not have been done, and we also fail to do the good that we know we should do many times along the way. But we don’t become discouraged or give up. We continue to ask God to forgive us and as his children he promises to continue to forgive us along the way of life. Each time we overcome some temptation or we repent of some sin, we are made stronger in Christ and are drawn closer to him.
Heavenly Father it is so good to be your child and to know that you continue to forgive me when I fail. Help me keep my eyes of faith open so I will follow the light of Jesus in all I do. Fill me with your Spirit and empower me to accomplish what you want me to do today. Help me accept your love into my heart so that it overflows to others around me, in patience and in kindness. Keep me from being concerned so much about others’ behavior that I forget to control my own. Use me to help those who are hurting and struggling. I pray in the name of Jesus.
