Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:121-128

Ps 119:121-128      Ayin

I have done what is righteous and just; do not leave me to my oppressors. Ensure your servant's well-being; let not the arrogant oppress me. My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise. Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees. I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes. It is time for you to act, O LORD; your law is being broken. Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold, and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.

1 John 3:21-24

Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave to us.

Imagine that you are a slave. But before you get all of the repugnant ideas in your head, let me explain your situation. Your master is so rich and so powerful that he can do anything he desires, with no exceptions. But he loves you so much that he is willing to do whatever it takes for your good and your well-being.  In fact, when you got yourself into some real trouble, he was willing to let his own son die so you could live. Your master now says you are free to stay with him or to leave.

What you have found out so far in life is that all of his rules are fair and are all designed to make your life better. Also, the more you obey this master, and the more you submit your will to his, the more he protects you and takes care of you in every way. Even though you don’t deserve his love, he loves you anyway and is willing to adopt you into his family and you can live in splendor forever.

What fool would want to get out of this slavery? Why would anyone want to go out on their own and throw all of this away? Yet is this not exactly what we have in Jesus Christ! God is our Master and our Father. Jesus is our Lord and brother.

Heavenly Father it is such a joy to be your slave and to know that you will protect me in every situation I face in life. It is so wonderful to know that even when I do mess up my life, you are willing to accept me back because of your love and what Jesus did for me on the cross. Help me understand that submission and absolute obedience is not a bad thing but is only for my good. Use me to serve others with all you have given me in this life. Keep me from being selfish or proud. Give your peace to those who are grieving and hurting in other ways. In Jesus name.
