Daily Devotional: Psalms 121:1-8
Ps 121:1-8
I lift up my eyes to the hills--where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip--he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you--the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm--he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
When we trust in the Lord, we never have to worry about what man can do to us or what is happening around us. All of the fighting, the shootings, the wars do indeed concern me. My heart bleeds for those who are affected by these things and the loss that so many suffer because of them. All of these happen when God is taken out of the equation, out of the hearts and lives of people. Paul told the Romans that when one ignores God, he will eventually give up on them.
It should come as no surprise that when young people are taught that there is no God and that there is no absolute morality and that this life is all there is, they do not have respect for any authority or even for life itself. When we raise young people without consequences for their decisions or their actions, they will grow up expecting that everyone else owes them whatever they desire.
The answer to our problem is God. The answer is Jesus. The answer is the Bible and the teaching found in it. True peace can only come when we recognize God as the only true God and when we accept Jesus as our Savior and the only hope of eternal life. In the infallible word of God, we learn that Jesus has all authority, that there is an absolute morality given by God and that people will reap what they sow. We learn that love for God is the greatest command and for others is next.
Heavenly Father I am thankful for all of the material things you have given to me in this life. I thank you for my family, both my physical family and my spiritual family as well. Thank you for the opportunity to be your child and to be able to teach others to want to follow you and to serve you. Give me a pure and genuine heart, always seeking to be like Jesus. Be with the leaders of the various countries that we may be able to live in peace. Give your inner peace to those who are in distress, those who are grieving and those who are hurting. In Jesus name.
