Daily Devotional: Psalms 125:1-5

Ps 125:1-5

Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore. The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil. Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart. But those who turn to crooked ways the LORD will banish with the evildoers. Peace be upon Israel.

1 Tim 6:11-12

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and he will always be with you and he will always protect you. The more we seek to be close to him, the more he will cling to us with his love. When we ignore him or when we turn from him, he will turn from us. When we forget that all we have is from his hand, he will let us go our own way, to our own hurt. He wants us to give him our heart, completely.

As we study the Old Testament, we learn from his dealings with his people, with their kings and their priests, that he demands submission and obedience, but not just following a bunch of rules. He wants us to give him our hearts and love him above all else. When Israel followed him and trusted him, he blessed them with things beyond their imagination. But when they took him for granted and went after their own gods and forsook his way, he brought calamity upon them.

These principles are true for us today and they apply to our personal lives, they apply to our families, our churches and they also apply to the government. He is God and he is Holy and he must be treated with respect as God. Nothing is more disrespectful than ignoring him or counting the blood of Jesus as nothing. In fact, the writer of the book of Hebrews says that when we do this, we are crucifying the Son of God all over again. Let’s take hold of eternal life in Jesus Christ.

O Lord God, I am thankful for your love and for your protection in every area of my life. Sometimes I feel like a little child and do not know what to do or how to go, but I trust you to lead me and give me wisdom to carry out what you want me to accomplish. Use me to serve you as I serve others. Help me know how to relate to young people and guide them in their early years so they will follow you all of their lives. Use me to serve the elderly as they deal with aging. Forgive me when I fail to be all you want me to become. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
