Daily Devotional: Psalms 130:1-8
Ps 130:1-8
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD; O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared. I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word, I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.
Gal 5:4-7
You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?
When we turn to God in Jesus Christ, and we give him our hearts and our lives, we find that he will forgive us from every sin we have ever committed. When we obey the gospel, when we are washed with the blood of Jesus, we have remission of our sins and we find true fellowship and peace with God in Jesus. But the faith that prompts us to turn to him also motivates us to live for him and to seek to be like him. Because of his grace to us, we die to sin and we let him live in us.
This response of faith does not earn us anything in the sight of God. It is just the result of our love for God because he loved us first, and it is a response of trust in him because Jesus is the only source of eternal life. The saving gospel is based on faith from first to last so we continue to live by faith in every part of our life.
As we walk in his light, we find fellowship with each other, with Jesus as our Lord and our Savior, and with God our Father. It is in this fellowship that we have the continuing cleansing by the blood of Jesus. Paul says that since we die to sin and we live for God, there is no condemnation for those who belong to God.
O God, the only True God, the Creator of all things and giver of life, it is such a joy to be able to talk to you and to know that you will hear me and that you will respond to my prayer. Holy is your name in all the earth, more reverend than any created thing or than anyone who lives. Use me Lord, to do your will, to be able to help others in their service to you. Give your peace to those who are hurting, give healing to the sick, hope to the hopeless, and joy to the depressed. Give me the wisdom to know and the strength to do your will. In the name of Jesus.
