Ps 136:1-3, 10-15
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever… and brought Israel out from among them His love endures forever. with a mighty hand and outstretched arm; His love endures forever. to him who divided the Red Sea asunder His love endures forever. and brought Israel through the midst of it, His love endures forever. but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea; His love endures forever.
1 Cor 10:1-5
For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert.
God blessed the children of Israel and made a great nation of one family. When they went into Egypt to live, it was only seventy of them but when they came out, it is estimated that there were probably over a million of them. When they later were given the land of Canaan, in fulfillment of another promise to Abraham, they soon became the greatest nation on earth. God was blessing them as his people.
This great nation ended up dividing into two nations and then both of them ended up being slaughtered and the remaining few being taken captive into foreign lands. How could this happen? The answer is found in the promises of God, who made them great to begin with. He told them that as long as they were faithful to him, he would bless them and protect them, but when they failed to trust him and live for him, he would curse them and destroy them.
When we live for the Lord, he will bless us and protect us. Today, his love endures forever and there is nothing that can tear us from his love. But we can leave him, lose his presence in our lives and we can lose all the blessings we have in Jesus Christ. It is up to us to be faithful, trust him and his word and live for him.
O Lord, my Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth. Your glory is beyond my ability to comprehend and is greater than words can describe. I know that you always keep your promise and your word is faithful. Help me walk in your way and live for you each day. Continue to forgive me when I fail, when I sin. Give your healing to those who are sick and be with those who are taking treatments. Give peace to those who are struggling with grief, those who are bombarded with emotional issues and those who are depressed. In Jesus name.
