Daily Devotional: Psalms 139:13-18
Ps 139:13-18
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
Rom 12:3-5
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
One of the greatest engineering feats every accomplished is the human body. It has some parts that have never been duplicated, in spite of years of research and effort. Scientists are still learning how some parts function and their true purpose. For many years the medical world believed that some parts were not necessary, only to find out that each of them does indeed have a purpose and function.
This is because we are wonderfully made by the God who designed us and then caused us to come into being. But we are more than just an engineering feat and we are high above the animal world in so many ways. All mankind is born with a moral compass and with an innate desire to serve a higher being. This is because we are designed and initially made in the image of God, who is not only moral in an absolute sense, but is also a God of love by his very nature.
We demonstrate our morality in our devotion to God and in our service to one another. Perhaps the greatest test of morality is our willingness to allow God to tell us how to live by dictating right from wrong. He is God and he knows what is best for us and for our lives here on earth, but even greater, our eternal destiny.
Heavenly Father, I am thankful for your great love and your infinite wisdom. It is a source of joy to serve you as I accept Jesus Christ as both my Lord and as my Savior. Help me follow him and imitate his example in life. Lord, be with those who are sick and give them your healing. Be with those who are grieving and give them your peace and joy. Guide our nation as you know best. Give us leaders who will trust you and follow your will for us. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
