Daily Devotional: Psalms 144:11-15
Ps 144:11-15
Deliver me and rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful. Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace. Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision. Our sheep will increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields; our oxen will draw heavy loads. There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets. Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed are the people whose God is the LORD.
Col 1:13-18
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Many equate the pursuit of happiness with what the Bible says when we are told to rejoice in everything and that we are not to worry about anything. The truth is that there is a huge difference in these. Many people fill their lives pursuing what they perceive to be happiness, only to never be satisfied. This is because they think that something in this world will make them happy. The Preacher tells us that he tried it all, and it was all like chasing the wind, just wasted effort.
As a child of God, we just accept his joy and we let him fill us with peace. The more we trust him and submit to his will, the more we realize his joy, joy that is not related to our circumstances in life. When we allow his Spirit to live in us and to mold us, the result (his fruit) is peace, joy, and love.
But to have this peace and to be filled with joy, we must focus on Jesus, and his love, and his promise to always be with us, even into eternity. To truly focus on Jesus, we must move our mindset from this world to the things above, where he is seated at the right hand of God, ever watching over us and interceding for us.
Heavenly Father it is such a relief to know that I don’t have to try to control things here on earth or even the circumstances of my life. Help me trust you more each day and then to submit to your will, without doubt or hesitation. I need your Spirit in my heart to help me be positive in my attitude and to have your peace flood my soul. Use me to help others and to know the joy found in giving, both what I have and giving of myself. I pray for those who are hurting, who are abused, who are filled with grief. Give them your peace and your joy. I pray in Jesus name.
