Daily Devotional: Psalms 145:1-7
Ps 145:1-7
I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. one generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts. They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works. They will tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds. They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
Col 2:9-12
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off the flesh, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.
To live after the flesh is so easy for us because we all live in the flesh. We live in the world but we are not to be of the world. This means that no matter where we live, no matter what surrounds us, and no matter what other circumstances prevail, we are to put God first in our lives. Sometimes it will be easier than it will be at other times. Some will encourage us and others will try to hinder us.
Joseph was faithful to God in his life. But realistically in his early years, he brought most of his troubles on himself with his spoiled superior attitude and by not knowing how and when to keep his mouth shut. I don’t know that I would have sold him, but if I had been his brother, I surely would not have liked him.
We all make mistakes in life. We all have problems and troubles in life. But like Joseph, we can put our trust in God and we can keep him foremost in our hearts and lives. Like with him, God can and will use whatever happens to us to carry out his will and for our eternal good. Will it always be easy? NO! Will it always be fun? NO! But will it be worth it for us to be faithful to God? YES! It will be worth it!
O Lord God, I joyfully sing your praise. I mediate on your wonderful works, both all around me and even more in my life. I know that often things happen and I do not understand why, so I am thankful that I can trust you in it. I have seen you take some terrible events in my life and use them for your glory and to help me grow closer to you. Thank you, Lord. I ask you to give your peace and healing to those who are sick and hurting. Increase my faith, give me your wisdom, and give me greater self-control to do your will. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
