Daily Devotional: Psalms 145:8-14
Ps 145:8-14
The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made. All you have made will praise you, O LORD; your saints will extol you. They will tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, so that all men may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.
2 Peter 3:9-10
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
The Lord is rich in love. Paul says that because of his great love, he has mercy on us and extends to us his grace. John says that love is from God because God is love. Jesus tells us that the greatest command given in Scripture is to love the Lord God with all our hearts, all our souls, and all our minds and then says that the next greatest is for us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. We may not understand the love of God, but we will never talk about it too much.
Study the life of Jesus and you will study the subject of love. He loved God and he showed that love by trusting him (even dying in obedience to him), by serving him as he served others around him. Out of his love, he healed some who were sick and afflicted, he sent demons out of people, he raised a few who had died, but he also washed his disciples’ feet. But more than all of these, he showed his love when he taught people about God and encouraged them to live for him.
“Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” The more we serve him, the more love he instills in us, and the more we become like him. The more we become like him, the sweeter our lives will be.
O Lord God, faithful and true, loving, and compassionate, it is such a joy to know that I belong to you and that you are my Father. Life is not easy and too often, life is not fair. But I know that I can trust you in every part of my life, every moment of every day. Keep me from being pretentious or from ever thinking that I am more important, or somehow, more righteous than others around me. Use me in your service to do your will. Give your relief to those living in pain and those who are trying to find the source of their pain. I pray in Jesus name.
