Daily Devotional: Psalms 149:1-9

Ps 149:1-9

Praise the LORD. Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King. Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp. For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation. Let the saints rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds. May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands, to inflict vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron, to carry out the sentence written against them. This is the glory of all his saints. Praise the LORD.

Heb 10:15-17

The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First, he says: "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds." Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more."

When we enter into the blessed covenant with God, through his Son, we have the promise and assurance that our sins are forgiven. When God forgives, he puts our sins as far from him as the east is from the west and remembers them no more. What a joy and a blessing to know that we are right with God when we get up in the morning, when we go to bed at night and all in between. Praise the Lord!

One of my most treasured passages of scripture is when Paul says we are saved by grace, through faith, and not of ourselves. God’s grace is so abundant that he could forgive Saul, the persecutor and then make him an apostle. If anyone deserved to not be saved, it was this man, but God showered his grace on him and took away all of his sins. So, Paul said: “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him.”

Paul said he was not ashamed of the gospel because it was the power of God unto salvation and then said it was built on faith, from the beginning to the end. “By faith” means absolute trust conjoined with obedience. In Christ we are created to do good works, not to save us, but because we are saved. When we are baptized into Christ, our sins are washed away and we become slaves to righteousness.

O Lord God, what a blessing to know that my sins are forgiven. Help me never use your grace as an excuse to sin but help me love you and therefore, live for you with all my heart, all my soul, and all my mind. As your slave, use me to help those around me and give me wisdom to lead others to you. Be with your people, in this area, but also, wherever they are. Increase our faith to trust you more. Fill me with your Spirit daily, so I can become more like you. I pray in Jesus name.
