Daily Devotional: Psalms 3:1-8
Ps 3:1-8
O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! Many are saying of me, "God will not deliver him." Selah But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. To the LORD I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill. Selah I lie down and sleep; I wake again because the LORD sustains me. I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side. Arise, O LORD! Deliver me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people. Selah
2 Chron 15:1-2, 7
The Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded. He went out to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded."
Do we really depend on the Lord? Paul said we are to “stand in the strength of his [God] might.” He also wrote that he could do all things through Christ who gives us strength. And, through the Holy Spirit living in us, God can do immeasurably more than we can ask or think. This is his world and he is in control.
There is nothing that we face in life that is not within his scope of power. We will never face any trial that he will not make available to us, both the wisdom to know and the power to overcome. With every temptation, he gives a way of escape, but we must pray for wisdom to see it and then take it.
Many of us are wealthy beyond words (not necessarily in physical wealth). If we have (had) godly parents who taught us about the Lord, and then taught us to want to be like Jesus and follow the word of God, we are rich. When we have tasted the kindness of the Lord, we are wealthy. Our desire is to please God, so we do not have the constant battle of keeping away from the sins that fill the world around us. But these advantages do not make us more righteous or holy; rather they give us greater responsibility to show compassion and assistance.
Heavenly Father use me to help others serve you and be faithful to you. Fill my heart with your love and your compassion so I will not be judgmental or self-righteous. Thank you for loving me and forgiving me of my sin. As you open doors of opportunity for me to help others, open my eyes to see them and my heart to respond to each one. Give me wisdom and strength to accomplish what you want me to do today. Give healing to the sick and peace to the troubled. Be with the leaders of our nation that we can live in peace. I pray in Jesus name.
