Daily Devotional: Psalms 9:7-12
Ps 9:7-12
The LORD reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. He will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the peoples with justice. The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done. For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.
1 Peter 2:11-12
Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from fleshly desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
Jesus is Lord! All authority has been given to him in heaven and on earth. This is why we see in the Revelation, all of the heavenly hosts singing: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.” We have all spiritual blessings in Christ and Paul said that he could do all things through Jesus Christ our Lord. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Everything that was made was made by him and all things are sustained by the power of his might.
None of this takes away from the sovereignty of God, the Father. The Father and the Son are one, in agreement, having the same nature and the same purpose. It is for our salvation that the Word became flesh and lived on earth among us. The great love of God prompted his tender mercy, so that he extended his grace to us so that we can live with him in eternity. Jesus is our Lord, our sovereign Savior!
The Queen has died and has now been buried. Countless monarchs have lived and died. Some of them were wonderful people, seeking only the good of those under them and their nation. Some have been tyrants and the world is better without them. But God raised Jesus from the grave and even today, over two-thousand years later, he lives and he still reigns! So, we seek to be like him by allowing the Spirit to grow his fruit in us, thus molding us into the likeness of our Lord.
O Lord God, what a blessing it is for me to be your child and to know that Jesus is my Savior and my friend. I know that you provide the air that I breathe and the sun that brightens each day. You give me food to eat and an abundance of material things to enjoy in this life. You have blessed me with the opportunity of living in a great nation that allows me many freedoms and opportunities. So, with deep gratitude, I submit my will to you and serve Jesus as my Lord and King. Use me to lead others to Christ and to help those who are hurting. In Jesus name.
