Daily Devotional: Psalms 9:13-20
Ps 9:13-20
O LORD, see how my enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death, that I may declare your praises in the gates of the Daughter of Zion and there rejoice in your salvation. The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden. The LORD is known by his justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. Selah The wicked return to the grave, all the nations that forget God. But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish. Arise, O LORD, let not man triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence. Strike them with terror, O LORD; let the nations know they are but men. Selah
1 Peter 2:13-17
Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
We like to divide things up in our minds so we assign cubby holes for different parts of our lives. We have the religious part of us. We have the family part, the social part, the work/profession, the political, the entertainment, and the list goes on. In doing this we often set different values and standards for each part. For example, I have known people that would say it is ok to do (or not do) things while they are on vacation but would never reason the same way when at home.
When we come before God, he is the God of all things. He is God over our sport, our social life, our entertainment, our religious, our political and he has the same values and standards for every part of our lives. This is because he sees us as a whole person and expects that person to be like Jesus every day, in every way.
Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. His word is truth so it never changes. His love is sure and cannot be altered. His wisdom is absolute so it never fails or comes up short. So, in Jesus we can be saved to the uttermost, forever.
O Lord God, thank you for being unchangeable and for being my solid rock. Mold me and use me to be what you want me to become so I can serve others and bring glory to your name. Increase my faith and give me wisdom to know how to depend on you in all things. O God, I ask a special blessing on those who are taking treatments and those who are grieving. I pray in the name of Jesus.
