Daily Devotional: Psalms 18:20-29

Ps 18:20-29

The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not done evil by turning from my God. All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees. I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin. The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless, to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty. You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.

Phil 4:5b-7

The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

The Lord is near so we do not need to worry. We can be thankful for all he has done because he is near. We can talk to the God of the universe and know that he cares for us and he will listen to us, he is always near. The closer we move toward him, the closer he moves toward us. He not only is near to us, but he is faithful, no matter where we are or what is happening to us. He is faithful to his own.

The peace of God is beyond our ability to understand. It can come to us in the midst of the worst storm, or in the middle of the worst pain, or when it seems that all hope is lost. In fact, it is in these times when we need it most that we have that overwhelming peace flood our souls and know that he is near! When all others seem to panic, when others despair, we can continue our life in peace. We serve the God of peace and Jesus our Lord is the Prince of Peace. As we allow the Spirit to live in us, he produces the fruit of peace. We may still have the pain or the problems in life, but we can face them in peace, knowing the Lord is near.

O Lord God, my Father in heaven, it is with joy that I come to you and praise you for your greatness and your goodness. Thank you for never leaving me and for always being near to me. Help me open my heart to your Spirit and give me a measure of peace that will flood my soul in times of stress. Use me to share your peace with others around me as they put their trust in you today, more than ever before. Give your healing to the sick and your peace to the troubled. Thank you for my family and for the friends you have given me. I pray in Jesus name.
