Daily Devotional: Psalms 19:1-6
Ps 19:1-6
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is hidden from its heat.
2 Peter 3:3-7
First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
When we are young, we seldom think about getting old or leaving this earth. We see things going on from day to day until we settle into middle age and life too often becomes boring and mundane. Since we only live one day at a time, we seem to get lost in the trivial things and forget the bigger picture and the years to come. Then, one day we awaken to realize we are in our golden years.
The wise man said that the whole reason we are on earth is to fear the Lord and keep his commandments. Our place “under the sun” is to bring glory to God and to trust Jesus his Son as our Savior. This means we all have purpose. We all have a reason for breathing his air. A few will have fame, some will have power but most of us serve the Lord by being us, in our sphere where he has put us. This means that we are to serve the Lord as a good person in our family, in our homes, in the workplace, in our neighborhood, and as a citizen. We serve God by letting his Spirit mold us into the image of Jesus our Lord as we serve others around us.
My Father in heaven, holy and reverend is your name. You are God whether I acknowledge it or not. You are Lord over all whether I submit to you or not. You are faithful to your word and you alone are Holy and Righteous. So, I humbly come to you as your small child and ask you to mold me into your likeness. Use me in whatever way you choose and that for which you have best suited me. Give me a servant heart and a constant willingness to help others. As trials increase, give me greater faith and patience to wait on you for deliverance. In Jesus name.
