Daily Devotional: Psalms 33:12-22
Ps 33:12-22
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth--he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. No king is saved by the size of his army, no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the LORD, he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.
James 3:17-18
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
Peace! World peace! Everyone wants peace. We want peace in the family, peace in our neighborhood, political peace, religious peace (on every scale, from the local group to the community of believers worldwide), family peace, marital peace, emotional peace, and the list goes on and on. We all want peace!
But the Bible says there will always be wars. We know that there are always issues in marriages and families. There have always been problems with believers getting along with each other. So, is there any hope for peace, is it possible?
The answer is that it can be accomplished – a world were everyone gets along with everyone else, on every level. The answer is that it will not happen because the author of confusion, turmoil, strife, fighting, hating, and bickering is the devil, and as long as only one person follows him, we have problems.
But we can be at peace in our own small corner of the universe. We begin by being at peace with God, which gives us peace with ourselves. These two things make it possible for us to be at peace with others because we are then motivated by love and guided by patience, self-control, and joy, practicing forgiveness. In this way, we have the peace of God which surpasses human comprehension.
O Lord God, Father of peace, thank you for showing us how to live in peace. Your Son is the Prince of Peace, and he is my brother, my Savior and my Lord. Give me a pure heart to be more devoted to you and to Jesus. Thank you for the joy that comes by being in your family. I do pray for peace at every level and I ask you to guide the leaders of our country so that we can live quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness. Give your peace to those who are hurting. I pray in Jesus name.
