Daily Devotional: Psalms 34:15-22
Ps 34:15-22
The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry; the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. Evil will slay the wicked; the foes of the righteous will be condemned. The LORD redeems his servants; no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.
1 Peter 3:8-9
vs. 1 Wives…. vs. 7 Husbands… 8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
I went shopping with my wife several weeks ago and there were several of the people who worked in that department store that saw her and spoke to her by name. We all like to be recognized (even though I might like it better if she were not known so well at the mall). A few years ago we decided to use a certain pharmacy because we felt good about walking in and being recognized.
When you got out of bed this morning, you were recognized and greeted by name. It was not a sales associate, a clerk, or even a pharmacist. You were known by the God of heaven and you were greeted by Jesus. He sees you and he knows what you need, what you want, and why you feel the way you do today. He is aware of your struggles and he can help. He feels your pain and he can give you peace. While we face uncertainty, he is the master of making things certain.
No matter what happens to us, he has promised to use it for our good. Even the worst thing possible, he sees it and controls it because his grace is sufficient for us each day. The certainty is that he will walk with us and he will provide just what we need to get through it and he will then use it to the glory of God the Father.
O Lord God, you are so wonderful. It is such an honor to realize that you know me by my name and you recognize me, even in unusual circumstances. It is such a blessing to know your grace and to see how it is shown to me in my life when I face various trials. You have given me so much in this life and I thank you for every blessing, for each trial, and even for the disasters, which help me grow in faith. Use me to help others along life’s way and to give them courage and strength to live for you. Forgive me when I fail you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
