Daily Devotional: Psalms 38:1-6
Ps 38:1-6
O LORD do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. For your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down upon me. Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; my bones have no soundness because of my sin. My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning.
Rom 5:9-11
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
David, a man after God’s own heart. David, a man of faith who killed the giant with a sling and a stone. David, he fully trusted God with all his heart. How could this man have a conscience so racked with sin? How could he be overwhelmed with so much guilt and grief for his sin? David, a man just like you and me!
David had his weak moments. Some of them we remember as being huge and terrible sins – such as adultery and murder. Some of his weak moments were when he acted without consulting God and then made the wrong decision. When he became angry with Nabal and planned to kill him and take all he had. David was a man like us and he had his strengths, but he had his weaknesses too.
David always turned to God. When he sinned, he repented and looked to God for mercy and forgiveness. When he got in trouble, he turned to God. When life was upside down and everything around him crashed in on him, he turned to God. He had his heart set on serving God in obedience because he trusted God. His trust was based on his belief that God really is God and is in complete control. He never doubted the ability of God to do what he said. He never questions the wisdom of God. He always remembered the righteousness and love of God. We can too!
Lord God, thank you for giving me the life story and the example of David. Help me remember that in all of his goodness and faith, he was a man just like me. He was also a terribly sinful man at times, but in reality, I know I am too. Help me remember that it was my sin that caused Jesus to die on the cross. Give me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit to live for you and trust you in all things. Use me to show Jesus to others in my life. Help me be kind, patient, gentle, meek, and filled with your love. Use me to lift someone today. I pray in the name of Jesus.
