Daily Devotional: Psalms 45:13-17
Ps 45:13-17
All glorious is the princess within her chamber; her gown is interwoven with gold. In embroidered garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions follow her and are brought to you. They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king. Your sons will take the place of your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land. I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever.
Rev 19:6-9
Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear." (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'" And he added, "These are the true words of God."
The culture in Bible times was very different concerning weddings than it is in our time today. The emphasis was on the bridegroom then, where the emphasis is on the bride today. Of course the bride had to be ready and it was her special day for her, but for the ceremony and the families involved, it was about him, not her.
The kings of old would make treaties with the kings of other nations and then to show they were serious; they would take the king’s daughter as a wife. This led several of the kings to have multiple wives. It was an honor to marry a king.
Jesus is our bridegroom. There is a day coming when he will come to receive his bride in all her glory. This bride is what we call the church, it is his people. We have our lifetime to get ready to meet our groom. This readiness, it states as us being righteous and that is the same as saying we follow his will. We do this as individuals, not as a collective group or church. While the church needs to follow his will, the emphasis is on each of us being what he wants us to be. The wedding supper represents our going home with Jesus to live with him in eternity. We will finally reach our goal and we too will shout “Hallelujah!” to the Lamb.
O Lord God, you have given all authority and all power to the Lamb that was slain but is now the Prince of peace and the King of kings, to Jesus your Son. He is worthy to be praised because he has carried out your plan for me to be saved from my sin. Thank you for your indescribable love, your infinite mercy, and your marvelous grace shown to me in his life, his death, his resurrection, and in his ascension to your throne. Use me to serve others, to teach your word, and to help those who are struggling. In the name of Jesus I pray today and always.
