Daily Devotional: Psalms 48:8-14
Ps 48:8-14
As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever. Selah Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love. Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness. Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments. Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers, consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation. For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
Heb 12:22-24
But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
There has never been a nation of people on earth who have been blessed beyond what the children of Abraham received under the reign of David and the early years of his son Solomon. That is, not until the Messiah, the son of David began to reign. By faith in Jesus we are the seed of Abraham, along with the Jewish nation of old. Now our kingdom is greater, our king is Supreme and we are blessed.
We have all spiritual blessings in Jesus Christ. These begin with the love of God who gave Jesus to die for our sins. This list of blessings includes the great body of believers in our day, plus all those from the past and those who are to come. We are a part of that great city of the living God. In Christ we are counted righteous.
This means we have family that we have never met. This has become so evident to my wife and I as she has gone through her bout with cancer. She has received so many cards, text messages and other things from so many people, in so many places. It is not unusual for her to open a card and ask if I know the sender. Each of these has lifted her spirits and has made her journey easier. Every day we find new prayer warriors who express their love and concern. Spiritual blessings!
O Lord God, thank you for the great family of believers who have lifted Dianne and me up in so many ways. You have given us such a loving family in Jesus and we are grateful for each person who shows concern. Help me let this sink in so I will be more thoughtful and show my concern for others who are struggling. Use me to help them carry their load in life. Give me wisdom to see each opportunity to do good and strength to follow through. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
