Daily Devotional: Psalms 50:1-6
Ps 50:1-6
The Mighty one, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets. From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth. Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages. He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people: "Gather to me my consecrated ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice." And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah
Heb 12:26-29
At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, "Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens." The words "once more" indicate the removing of what can be shaken-that is, created things-so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our "God is a consuming fire."
The Lord, he is God! He is the one who created all things and he alone will decide when it will be destroyed. We (mankind) may spoil parts of his creation. We can make a total mess or wreck of his beauty and his perfection, but it is always in his hands and he alone can make time come to an end. The earth is the Lord’s and his creation should make everyone stand in awe and give him respect as God.
His power is shown in the storms, the floods, the tornadoes, and the hurricanes that spread destruction and destroy what we have built. Even the best engineers will give a wind or storm rating to structures because they know (even though they may not admit it) that they cannot build anything that God cannot destroy.
His love of beauty, peace and tranquility is seen in the flowers that bloom, in the song of the birds, in the wonderful sunsets, and the brook that flows ever so gently across the meadow. Each season shows this peaceful scene with the snow-covered trees, or the leaves taking on the beautiful colors, and when the grass turns green. His power, his wisdom, his love are all seen in his creation all around us and we must praise him and give him honor as the only true God.
O Lord God, holy and reverend is your name in all the earth. Praise to Jesus, who is worthy to receive all glory and honor because he has offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for my sin. Give me a pure heart that is determined to be like Jesus in every thought and action. Build my self-control so I will be consistent in doing what is right and staying away from the very appearance of evil. Use me and all you have put in my care to help others and to encourage them as they serve you. Forgive me when I fail to be all you want me to be. I pray in Jesus name.
