Daily Devotional: Psalms 65:1-8
Ps 65:1-8
Praise awaits you, O God, in Zion; to you our vows will be fulfilled. O you who hear prayer, to you all men will come. When we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions. Blessed are those you choose and bring near to live in your courts! We are filled with the good things of your house, of your holy temple. You answer us with awesome deeds of righteousness, O God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself with strength, who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations. Those living far away fear your wonders; where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy.
Col 1:15-17
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
God made it all and everything is under his control. Jesus sustains the earth and all of his creation. Only the Father knows when the end will come and when all he creation will be burned up with fervent heat. This is when Jesus will return in the clouds, and all who belong to him will meet him in the air. But God has promised to take away the curse of sin and there will be new heavens and a new earth.
If I were as smart as some claim to be, I would explain all of this and answer your questions (and mine). However, since I do not fully understand it all, we need to just accept it by faith and trust God to take care of it according to his word. While we wait, time goes on, wickedness prevails, and those who have rejected God will continue to go from bad to worse. False gods always lead to more wickedness.
But we serve a God who is righteous, good, kind, compassionate, and full of tender mercy. He does not want anyone to perish, but for all to turn to him in humble repentance. By turning to him, the worst of sinners can have their sins pardoned by the blood of Jesus. To make our land a better place for everyone, we need to do all we can to lead others to Jesus and his wonderful salvation.
Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me. Thank you for providing a way for my sins to be forgiven in Jesus. Lead me in your path, give me a pure heart that wants only to live for you. I need your wisdom to know and your strength to become all you want me to be. Give me a servant attitude so I will serve you better by serving others, and your name will be honored and you will be glorified. Guide our nation and our leaders so we can live in peace. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
