Daily Devotional: Psalms 68:21-27

Ps 68:21-27

Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins. The Lord says, "I will bring them from Bashan; I will bring them from the depths of the sea, that you may plunge your feet in the blood of your foes, while the tongues of your dogs have their share." Your procession has come into view, O God, the procession of my God and King into the sanctuary. In front are the singers, after them the musicians; with them are the maidens playing tambourines. Praise God in the great congregation; praise the LORD in the assembly of Israel. There is the little tribe of Benjamin, leading them, there the great throng of Judah's princes, and there the princes of Zebulun and of Naphtali.

2 Cor 12:9-10

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

There is a song we sing sometimes which says: “I’m learning to lean on Jesus. Finding more power than I’d ever dreamed, I’m learning to lean on Jesus.” It is a simple little song but it expresses a great truth we need to learn. Our power is made perfect (complete) when we learn to lean on Jesus and live by the power of the Holy Spirit in us. Paul says that the Spirit is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine when we open our hearts and lives to him. Praise God!

The problem we have with this is turning loose of self. It is allowing God to have control of our lives because this means we let him control our minds, our desires, and our actions. We have to kill our own for his to live in us. We die to sin. We are crucified with Christ so that we no longer live but he lives in us. But the result when we do this is that we can do all things through Christ who empower us.

This is faith. This is living and active faith. This must become our way of thinking and then it can become our way of life. We trust God with the little things and then we learn to really trust him for the big things in life. When we let Jesus live in us, his Spirit lives in us and we become the temple of God the Father.

O Lord, help me open my heart to Jesus so that he will live in me. Give me the power to accomplish what you want me to do and mold me into the person you want me to become. Use me then to serve you as I serve those around me. Keep me from being selfish so I will use what you have given me to help others. Thank you for the opportunity to be your child and to serve you. So many of your people are struggling in hard places and I ask you to be with them. In Jesus name.
