Daily Devotional: Psalms 77:1-9

Ps 77:1-9

I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands and my soul refused to be comforted. I remembered you, O God, and I groaned; I mused, and my spirit grew faint. Selah You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak. I thought about the former days, the years of long ago; I remembered my songs in the night. My heart mused and my spirit inquired: "Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?" Selah

Rom 8:16-17

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs — heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Does Jesus care? O yes, he cares! His heart is touched with my grief! Jesus knows exactly how I feel when I face insurmountable odds in my life. He knows what it is like to be homeless, hungry, thirsty, and tired. He understands being sick, he has felt the grief in death, he was betrayed by a friend and then his closest companion denied that he even knew him. He did nothing wrong but was tortured and killed.

There will be days that you and I have prayed, pleaded, begged, and cried until there are no more tears, and still no answer or relief. Where is he then? Why does he not respond? Have I done wrong? Is he angry with me? How can we trust in a God who ignores us when we need him the most?

Then I remember that because of his love for you and me, in agony, Jesus hung on that piece of wood, his life slowly ebbing from his body. In his pain, he cried out: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” For the good of Jesus, so he could be my Savior, for our good, so we can be saved, and for the glory of God, it was necessary that God turn his back on Jesus and let him complete his mission. But he never forgot him. Jesus died for our sins and was raised for our justification.

Hallelujah! What a Savior! All praise and glory to the God over all! Worthy is the Lamb to receive glory and honor! It is so wonderful to serve the risen Savior and to know that your love never ends. Instill in me a pure heart, a devoted heart, a heart of love and compassion. Use me to help someone get through today. Thank you for loving me and for never forsaking me. As our nation begins the process of elections, help me remember that you are in control. Give us people who respect you as God and will allow us to live in peace. I pray in the name of Jesus.
