Daily Devotional: Psalms 82:1-8
Ps 82:1-8
God presides in the great assembly; he gives judgment among the "gods": "How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked? Selah Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. "They know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. "I said, 'You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.' But you will die like mere men; you will fall like every other ruler." Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.
Rom 13:1-2
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
How long will God allow a wicked nation to continue? Many are quick to point to Rome and describe how that great nation crumbled from within. They lost all moral compass, destroyed the family as an important unit, and corruption ran rampant throughout the government. Homosexuality and pedophilia were accepted as normal behavior. Then the government began to persecute any who opposed these things, with Christians as their main target.
As we look around and see these same things happening in our nation, what are we as the children of God supposed to do? The first and most important thing we can do is pray. Pray for our rulers that they will repent. Pray for our nation that many will be led to Christ and give up the ungodly lifestyles. We then must do our part to make the effort to lead people to accept Jesus as their Savior. We are to stand against sin. Who is pushing it does not matter as much as what we do about it. As Christians we must teach our children and grandchildren to love the Lord and to serve him. Boldly declare our allegiance to Jesus as Lord. Show love to all.
My Father in heaven, holy and glorious is your name in all the earth. I know that Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords. Give me strength to stand for what is right and do it in the spirit of love. I ask for your mercy on the leaders of our nation, from the lowest levels to the very top. Open their eyes to see the horrible path they are taking for themselves and for our nation. Give them your wisdom and guide them so we can live peaceful lives. I ask you to control the damage that is being done by the media and the internet. I pray in the name of Jesus.
