Daily Devotional: Psalms 86:6-11
Ps 86:6-11
Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me. Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name. For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Col 2:2-4
My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
“Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart” is possibly one of the best expressions of faith that I have ever read. “You tell me, and I will do it.” There are no questions or excuses, and certainly not any resistance to the authority of the Lord to tell him how to live. This is trust in the fullest sense. The is devotion to the Lord as Master. This is faith that saves.
This faith is based on the belief that “you alone are God.” We cry to him in our times of distress because he is great and does marvelous deeds today. No matter what we face in our lives today, he is still God, and he is still able to fix, solve, work, or do whatever needs to be done for us. There is nothing beyond his ability to understand and then to know what is best for us, in our time and place.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. (Eph. 1:3) We are told to ask him for whatever we need, but with thanksgiving. Remember the time you faced that big problem that had no solution? You prayed and somehow things worked out. That was not luck or coincidence, that was God! He is still alive today and he is still working in the lives of those who trust him. Trust Jesus Christ as your Lord! Live for him with an undivided heart! Give him praise and thanksgiving!
O Lord God, I am so thankful for the many blessings you give me in Christ Jesus. It is such a joy to be able to face the troubles of this life with the assurance that you are always near to me. I know that you can do immeasurably beyond all that I can ask or even think. You know best and will only do what is best for me. But I have friends who are struggling, so I ask you to give them your healing, your solution to their problems, and your wisdom. Help them to trust you and live for you. Use me to help them and others around me. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
