Daily Devotional: Psalms 87:1-7

Ps 87:1-7

He has set his foundation on the holy mountain; the Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are said of you, O city of God: Selah "I will record Rahab and Babylon among those who acknowledge me — Philistia too, and Tyre, along with Cush — and will say, 'This one was born in Zion.'" Indeed, of Zion it will be said, "This one and that one were born in her, and the Most High himself will establish her." The Lord will write in the register of the peoples: "This one was born in Zion." Selah As they make music they will sing, "All my fountains are in you."

Rev 21:1-4

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He shall dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be among them, and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away."

If pregnancy was the end result and that is all there was for a woman, life would only be about the misery, pain, sickness and all the other things that go with this time. However, when the baby is born, it brings so much joy that in a few months, most women forget what they went through and begin to yearn for another child, even if it means being pregnant. (I am glad, because I am a number 3 child!)

Life is this way for all of us. We suffer all of the pain, the heartaches, the grief, and so many other things that come with life. If this is all there was for us, life would be futile and vain, like chasing after the wind. But praise the Lord! There is more to come that will make it all worthwhile! We will be a part of this new city and be with the Lord forever! In fact, Paul said that the worst we can suffer now does not even begin to compare with the glory that is to come. We cannot even begin to imagine the splendor of being in the very presence of Jesus and the Father.

My Father in heaven, help me see the glory of the new Jerusalem by faith so I will set my eyes on it and on Jesus my Savior. Remind me daily that this life is short and temporary and that this body will be replaced with a new immortal body, a body without sickness and without pain. Give me a steadfast heart and strength to endure whatever I face. Be with others who are faced with their own problems and use me to help them be strong and to trust you. I pray in Jesus’ name.
