Daily Devotional: Psalms 88:8-12
Ps 88:8-12
You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them. I am confined and cannot escape; my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, O Lord, every day; I spread out my hands to you. Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do those who are dead rise up and praise you? Selah Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction? Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?
1 Peter 1:3-5
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade — kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
Is your cup half full or half empty? Do you see the good or the bad in things around you? A lot of what we see is because of our attitude and what we are looking for or expect to see. Did you ever buy a new car and then notice for the first time, how many other cars just like it are on the road? I saw a tee shirt the other day that said: “look for the good in everything.” It is there if we look.
A negative mindset makes us unhappy. Seeing mostly the bad side of things leads us to complaining. (Israel was punished more than once for complaining.) This really becomes serious for parents of young children when we criticize them for everything they do, with seldom an encouraging word. It is equally true when we go to church and all we notice is how bad the song leader did or how long the preacher preached, or someone is not dressed properly, or grumble, gripe and complain. Then we wonder why we didn’t get anything out of the service!!
Praise the Lord! Give thanks for all things. All spiritual blessings are in Christ Jesus our Lord, and they are mine today! God has healed my disease! Jesus was with me as I went through that rough time in my life! If you did something really good for someone and they didn’t seem appreciative or thankful, how would you feel? How does God feel about the way you accept his blessings? Smile, God is good!
O Lord God, giver of all good things, I am so thankful for the life you have given me. Thank you for this great nation in which I live. Thank you for the freedoms I enjoy every day, and too often take for granted. I know these are only possible because you have made it so. Thank you for my family and the love we share. It is so good to wake every morning and to know that I am loved. Thank you for your love shown to me in Jesus Christ. Help me be positive and thankful all day today, no matter what I face, resting in your care. I pray in the name of Jesus.
