Daily Devotional: Psalms 89:30-37

Ps 89:30-37

"If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes, if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands, I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging; but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered. Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness — and I will not lie to David — that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun; it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky." Selah

Gal 6:7-9

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (ESV)

God knows. God sees. God cares. God must punish sin to be just. We will not fool God into thinking that we are serving him, if we are not. We may fool a lot of people, but we will not deceive God. Jesus said that he knows every word we say and sees every deed we do, both good and bad. Only when we put our faith in Jesus Christ can we be counted righteous, and then only because he paid the penalty for our sin. In his sacrifice, God is shown to be just and the justifier.

When God makes a promise, it is done. We make promises and we forget, or things happened that we did not expect, and we are unable to do what we said we would do, or some just simply don’t keep their word. This is not true with God because by his very nature as God, he cannot lie. But his faithfulness is sure, not only for those who serve him, it is also true for those who do not.

As a child of God, we have entered into a covenant with God through Jesus, so we belong to him. Everything we do in life reflects on Jesus, either good or bad. When others see us, our attitude, our behavior, or hear our speech, it either draws them toward Jesus or it repels them. The great news is that when we live for him and live like him, the more joy and peace we have in our lives. God knows best.

O God, thank you for your love, your wisdom, and your power shown all around me. Thank you for giving your Spirit to live in me to share your love, your wisdom, and your power in my life. Lord, when I look at the life of Jesus, all I see is one who was perfect, totally righteous. When I compare my life to his, I see miserable failure in so many ways. Thank you for forgiving me in Jesus. Increase my faith, give me a pure heart, and a steadfast spirit as I live for you each day. Use me to help others with a true heart of compassion. I pray in the name of Jesus.
