Daily Devotional: Psalms 95:1-6
Ps 95:1-6
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; …
Heb 13:15-16
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise — the fruit of lips that confess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
Almost every day I talk with someone who is deeply concerned about the way things are going in our world. At times it is the political world and how corrupt it seems so many of our leaders have become. Others talk about the lack of morality and the way so many want to force others to accept their ungodliness. Some are concerned about the environment and what they see happening to us. And then there are those who mix all of this into one, and then add the discord among us.
While all of these are genuine concerns (and a list of others could be added), as the children of God, we have no reason to worry. We have a weapon that goes largely unused that is more powerful than the internet. We can pray to the God of the universe. He made it, and along with Jesus, nothing was made that has been made. Jesus has all authority, and he sustains the world and has control over it.
So why don’t we have peace? Why is there so much immorality? Why so much pain and suffering? Why are the helpless allowed to be abused? Satan! Sin! Lies! The devil is the prince of this world, for now. Paul told us that there will be those who will not accept God, or his word and they would practice all kinds of evil, going from what seems unbelievably bad to even worse. But Satan is like a dog on a chain which can wreak havoc within its boundaries but cannot touch anything outside of that. If we will trust God and live for him, there is nothing in the world, physical or spiritual, that can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ our Lord!
My Father in heaven, I thank you for knowing the safety of being in the arms of Jesus my Lord. Help me to be able to reach that person who is looking for a better life but does not know Jesus. Give me a caring and sharing heart to help those who are struggling. Give your peace to those who are taking treatments for cancer and those waiting on an organ transplant. As we face elections in our nation, give us leaders who respect you and your word, and who will encourage peace among the people who disagree with each other. I pray in the name of Jesus.
