Daily Devotional: Psalms 100:1-5
Ps 100:1-5
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Eph 1:3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.
We are the people of God! Jesus is our Great Shepherd! He knows us and we know him. As we let these thoughts sink in, we are humbled to know that God really does care about us. We owe him everything; all we are and all we hope to ever become are because of his grace shown to us in Jesus Christ.
Serving Jesus. This is our goal. It is much more than just going to church and singing a few songs, praying and listening to some guy talk and talk. God wants us to worship him in the assembly. In fact, he tells us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together – as some people do. But serving God, living for Jesus, being one of the lowly lambs in his flock, is more than this.
Serving Jesus starts with a heart that is devoted to him. A heart that actually accepts Jesus as our LORD, as our Master, our Shepherd. This means that we let him tell us how to live. He determines what is appropriate for us to do or say, as well as our attitude toward others and even ourselves.
It starts by considering others as more important than ourselves. We owe love to everyone. We are to love God above all else. We are to love our family, our friends and even our enemies. Love is shown in our kindness, our patience, our gentleness, and our self-control. Love does not complain. Love does not gossip. Love does not find fault with others and put them down. Love lifts up and love encourages. Love finds ways to make others want to serve Jesus with us.
O Lord God, fill my heart with devotion to Jesus. Fill me with your love so that it overflows to everyone around me. Give me patience and self-control so I will be kind and considerate to everyone I meet. Please be with those who are hurting today and those who are struggling. Use me to encourage them. Be with our nation and give us leaders who will allow us to live in peace and will continue to give us freedom to worship you. I pray in the blessed name of Jesus.
