Daily Devotional: Psalms 104:27-35
Ps 104:27-35
These all [the creatures that inhabit the earth rf] look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth. May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works — he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord. But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the Lord, O my soul. Praise the Lord.
Acts 17:24-25, 27
"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
We often talk about God, and we teach our children about him. We speak of his wisdom, his power and his majesty. But talking about God is not the same as coming to know him. Jesus said if we know him, we also know the Father. For us to talk about his wisdom is good, but we must trust his wisdom to guide us and lead us in our lives. We speak of his majesty and his greatness. This is wonderful, but we must bow before him and worship him as God and Jesus as Savior.
The only thing we have to offer God that is not his already is our devotion, based on our faith. Jesus said that the only way to come to the Father is by coming to him as our Lord and as our Savior. Our whole purpose of being on earth is to learn to trust the Lord and follow his will. This results in eternal life with him in glory, but it also shows us how to love others as he loves us. This love is translated into action as we serve others in the name of Jesus. This is pure religion to God.
O Lord God, increase my faith so I will become all you want me to be. Use me to help others and serve them with all you have given to me. Help me remember that the most valuable thing you have given me is time, so let me share it with those who need it from me. Be with our nation and move us toward you by giving us leaders that respect you as God and are willing to listen to your wisdom. Give your people strength to stand up for you and for your word as revealed to us in the Bible. Forgive me when I fall short of your glory. I pray in Jesus’ name.
