Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:37-41
Ps 105:37-41
He brought out Israel, laden with silver and gold, and from among their tribes no one faltered. Egypt was glad when they left, because dread of Israel had fallen on them. He spread out a cloud as a covering, and a fire to give light at night. They asked, and he brought them quail and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. He opened the rock, and water gushed out; like a river it flowed in the desert.
2 Peter 1:10-11
Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
God does not do anything half-way. His power is not limited, so when he acts, he does it right. He has promised us a rich (abundant) entrance into the eternal kingdom of Jesus. When God took his people out of slavery in Egypt, he gave them a land “flowing with milk and honey.” But most of the individuals who left Egypt, never made it to Canaan because of their unbelief, their refusal to be faithful in their service to God. It was their children who crossed the Jordan in victory.
Consider the power of God in delivering his people from bondage. As we read about the plagues, we often overlook what God actually did to Egypt. The total destruction of the nation could not have been more devastating if the greatest army in the world had come and fought against them. He methodically destroyed their agriculture, their livelihood, their economy, their culture, and their army.
He opened the rock, and water gushed out; like a river it flowed in the desert. It was enough water that came out of that rock to supply over a million people (and many scholars believe it was closer to three million) and all of their livestock. It was truly a river that flowed out in the desert. In addition to the water, God supplied enough manna and quail for them to eat every day, for forty years!
This is the same God, with the same wisdom and power that takes care of us and defends us, because he has rescued us from the bondage of Satan. There is nothing too difficult or too big for God to take care of, or to supply us when we are in need. He is still in control of all things, so we can trust him in all things.
O Lord God, my heavenly Father, I thank you for all you do for me every day and have done for me all of my life. Thank you for the wonderful people you have put into my life, both family and friends. Thank you for the opportunities you have given me to serve others and to help them in what they face. Thank you for the many times these same people have helped me in my times of trouble. Give greater faith and your peace to those who are struggling with trusting you as they face their trials in life. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
