Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:42-45
Ps 105:38, 42-45
Egypt was glad when they left, because dread of Israel had fallen on them…. For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham. He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy; he gave them the lands of the nations, and they fell heir to what others had toiled for — that they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the Lord.
Col 1:13-16
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Praise the Lord! We have been delivered from the dominion of darkness and sin and we have been brought into the kingdom of Christ. We are therefore no longer subject to the sin of this world or its consequences, but we are servants of Christ, given to godliness, righteous before God. We live in peace because in Christ we have a clear conscience. Therefore, we seek to be at peace with everyone.
Even after Israel left Egypt, Pharaoh changed his mind and pursued them with his army. It was then that they saw again the power of God as he parted the water and allowed them to escape on dry land. When the army got in the sea, the waters came back and destroyed them all. God promised and God delivered.
When we become children of God, it does not mean that we will never be tempted again or that we will never face trials. In fact, when we give our life to Christ, it is then that the devil and his servants will make extra efforts to make us renounce our faith in Jesus and our commitment to him. There are times in the life of every Christian that we face the impassable sea, but God will deliver us.
Storms will rage inside of us and in our lives. Jesus will calm the storm. Problems will flood our souls, but God will carry us through. Hurt, heartache, grief, pain, suffering, and every kind of evil will come on us, but God has promised to take care of us and deliver us from it all, and he will indeed! God did not kill the lions for Daniel, but he stopped their mouths from harming him. When Stephen was stoned to death, he gladly went to his eternal rest in the arms of Jesus.
O Lord God, there are times in life when it seems that everything has crashed in on me and then it seems that my troubles are worse than anyone else around me. Yet, I know that others have faced greater things. There are some days that my joy overflows because I am focused on Jesus and revel in his love and in his blessings. I am so thankful for your consistent love and care for me, both in good times and when things are hard. Help me focus on the trials of others and help them in their struggles. Give them your peace and joy in Christ, in whose name I pray.
