Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:13-18
Psalms 106:13-18
But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his counsel. In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wasteland they put God to the test. So, he gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease upon them. In the camp they grew envious of Moses and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the Lord. The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it buried the company of Abiram. Fire blazed among their followers; a flame consumed the wicked.
Hebrews 4:14-16
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Life can be hard. Life can be good. Life is usually a combination of both. Some days we are up and some days we are in the dumps. A lot of this depends on how we look at things and our attitude about life in general. A positive attitude does make us feel better about things and this is good, but it is not all we need. When we depend on just having a good attitude, we may be putting our trust in ourselves and not in God. We must include God as the reason for being positive.
Life is good when we are in Christ. We then can hold firmly to the faith we profess, and therefore, have a positive attitude. This means we look for the good in others and in everything that happens to us and around us. Our attitude is based on the promise of God that he will make everything turn out for our good. But remember that our ultimate good is going to live with Jesus in eternal bliss.
This kind of positive attitude will take away our anxiety because we are giving thanks for everything. It will remove our complaining because we cannot give thanks and complain at the same time. There will be no room for being critical of others because we have our eyes focused on Jesus and the things above. Being positive, because of our faith, will result in us rejoicing in the Lord always!
My Father in heaven, holy and reverend is your name. Worthy is the name of the Lamb, Jesus your Son, to be praised and honored because of the life he lived and the death he died. Thank you for accepting his sacrifice and raising him from the grave. Give me strength to be positive about everything today and tomorrow and the next days that follow. Remind me to be thankful about everything. Keep me from complaining or being critical. Use me to help others look to you and to know your joy and your peace as they trust you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
