Daily Devotional: Psalms 107:1-6
Ps 107:1-6
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say this — those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
1 Thess 2:13
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.
If they only knew! The very thing that would make their lives better, the only thing that would give them the peace of mind that they long for, is Jesus. He is rejected by so many because they think that serving him takes away their fun, their joy, and takes them into some kind of bondage. Nothing could be farther from the truth! The devil is a master of deceit and uses lies to control his people.
By serving God and living for him, so many of the daily problems that so many people face would be taken away. By being honest, people gain respect and true friendships are built. By refusing to take part in the temporary fun of drugs and alcohol, they rid themselves of all kinds of physical ailments, in addition to the emotional and social destruction. By living moral lives as describe in the Bible, marriages would bring happiness and heartaches would decrease.
But no matter where one fits in all of these things, God still loves each person so dearly that he gave his Son to die for sin – the sin of all of us. The offer is on the table to come to God through Jesus Christ and have our sins forgiven. This makes us right in our relationship with God, but it also takes away our hatred, our bitterness, our emptiness, and replaces these with love, kindness, forgiveness toward others, and gives us a family who loves us, no matter what we face. Jesus offers the abundant life both now and in eternity. Serving Jesus will not take away all our troubles, but it will give us strength, courage and hope needed to endure.
O Lord God, give me wisdom to live for you. Help me reach out to those who are lost in sin and to share the good news of Jesus with them. Help me know how to encourage those who are your children but who have let their fire for you burn out. Open their hearts to your Spirit who longs to lift them up and to fill their hearts with joy and peace. Please be with those who are struggling and use me to help them. Please be with our nation and give us leaders who will respect you and your word so we can live peaceful and quiet lives. I pray in Jesus’ name.
