Daily Devotional: Psalms 109:21-25
Ps 109:21-25
But you, O Sovereign Lord, deal well with me for your name's sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me. For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. I fade away like an evening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust. My knees give way from fasting; my body is thin and gaunt. I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads.
2 Cor 4:15-17
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
Life is great! Life is filled with problems! Some days are a breeze! Some days are really hard to endure! Where do you fit? Probably all of it applies to us all. We all have our good days and then some that are not so good. As we age, it seems that most of us have more pains and aches and we find more parts of our bodies that don’t want to work properly. Solomon said this is the way of all mankind.
Jesus suffered. Paul suffered. David suffered. Peter suffered. You suffer and I do too at times. But there is an eternal home promised to God’s children that far outweighs all of these temporary troubles. So, no matter how bad things get now, we have something better to keep us going and give us joy, to the glory of God.
How do we handle our problems? Do we constantly gripe and complain, as though we are the only person in the world who has problems? Do we wallow in self-pity and feel miserable because of all the bad things happening to us? Or do we dwell on the good things in life, do we look to Jesus for our joy and peace? The more we can focus on, let our minds dwell on and then talk about the good things, the better we will feel, and the more others will enjoy being with us.
Give thanks in everything and worry about nothing. A big part of doing this is coming to the realization that life is not about “me”. Life is about giving glory to God and to Jesus our Lord. Complaining does not honor him but thanksgiving does. Self-pity does not give him glory but rejoicing in him does.
O Lord God, help me endure my problems with grace. I know that your grace is sufficient for every situation in my life. I know that you will give me strength to endure whatever I face. Also, when I am honest, my problems are not nearly as bad as a lot of others face every day. Use me to encourage them. Thank you for blessing me in more ways than I ever dreamed were possible. Thank you for this country in which I live and the freedoms I enjoy. I pray in Jesus’ name.
