Daily Devotional: Psalms 115:9-13
Ps 115:9-13
O house of Israel, trust in the Lord — he is their help and shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord — he is their help and shield. You who fear him, trust in the Lord — he is their help and shield. The Lord remembers us and will bless us: He will bless the house of Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron, he will bless those who fear the Lord — small and great alike.
Rom 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
O house of (you fill in your name), trust in the Lord – he is your help and your shield. The wise man said that the whole purpose of life is to fear the Lord and keep his commandments. He said that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord, and the beginning of knowledge is the fear of the Lord. When we respect God as God and we enthrone Jesus as Lord in our hearts, we will put our trust in him in all things. When we trust him, we will want to obey his will for us.
It seems that some consider the idea of obedience as a dirty word, as though somehow, it goes against the concept of salvation by faith and by grace. Actually, just the opposite is true. Our faith is seen in our submission to Jesus as Lord. An acknowledgment of servitude to God on our part is an acknowledgment of his grace towards us. We serve and obey him because he has saved us from sin.
It is this trust in the Lord that gives us peace and joy and fills our hearts with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Paul said that if we do not have the Spirit living in us, we are not a part of Christ. The Spirit is the source of his power in us. He gives us the wisdom that comes from above. He calms our fears and takes away our anxieties. His indwelling yields his fruit in our hearts and our lives.
O Lord God, I am so thankful for Jesus who is your plan of salvation for all who will put their trust in him. Open my heart to your Spirit and fill me with your peace, your joy, and your hope. Thank you for the many fellow Christians you have put into my life, both now and over the past years. Thank you for those who have had a part in teaching me and encouraging me to live for you. Thank you for my family and for the love we share. Thank you for the many “things” you have put in my life and have given me to use. Help me always remember that they are just things that will disappear one day. Keep me from being selfish so I will use what I have, to help others and will do good with all you have entrusted to me. Increase my faith. Use me to lift up the downhearted, to strengthen the weak, to cheer the sad, and to lead the lost to Jesus. Be with those who are being persecuted for their faith in Jesus and give them peace. I pray in his Holy name.
Happy Thanksgiving Day! Robert
